Professional Advisory Council
The Professional Advisory Council serves as program advisors, volunteers, mentors, and employers for our students. As a member, you'll help guide our nonprofit's training program to best meet current industry needs. You'll also have opportunities to meet and work with students during their training, speak in class or at graduations, assist with culinary events, and much more.
Our most popular volunteer activity is to act as a judge in our Cookoff, a "Chopped" style competition at the end of each cohort. Local chefs guide students through the planning, cooking and presenting of a single, perfect dish, using surprise ingredients. The catch: Pros are not allowed to touch anything, but can guide the student verbally or by demonstration. The judges then rank each dish based on technique, taste, and presentation. The winner is announced at the cohort's graduation a few days later.
There is no charge to hire our students, but your access can be ranked based on criteria listed below. Preferred Employers have at least 6 of these qualifications:
- Engagement with Food Jobs Work (volunteering, etc.)
- History of employing Food Jobs Work grads
- Willingness to provide feedback
- Multiple locations
- Opportunities for advancement
- Low-barrier application process (short applications, no long surveys)
- Starting wage of at least $14/hr
- No background check
